• Scientific Name: Kalanchoe daigremontiana (also classified under Bryophyllum).
• Other Names: Alligator plant, Mexican hat plant, devil’s backbone, Mother of Thousands.
• Native Home: Madagascar.
• Size: Grows up to 2 to 3 feet tall and 1 to 2 feet wide.
• Toxicity: Contains daigremontianin and is toxic if eaten by humans, cats, dogs, or grazing animals. Keep away from pets and small children.
• Leaf Plantlets: Miniature clones grow on the leaf margins complete with tiny roots. They drop off easily and root wherever they land.
• Appearance: Features thick, fleshy, blue-green or gray-green leaves, often with purple spots or stripes underneath.
• Flowers: Produces sporadic, bell-shaped, grayish-pink to orange flowers on tall stalks during late winter or early spring.
